Stark Parks is Hiring an Equipment operator Near Massillon, OH

The Stark County Park District is currently seeking a full time Construction Worker & Equipment Operator to be part of our Operations team to safely and effectively complete a variety of physical, hands on construction work and heavy equipment operation type duties pertaining to building and maintenance of trails, parks, parking lots and facilities.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Performs a variety of duties associated with construction work leading to building and maintaining trails, parks, facilities and parking lots including but not limited to performing clearing, grading, paving, finish grading, and carpentry.
  • Responsible for construction duties for a variety of trail, building and / or structure projects including loading / unloading building materials, hauling materials and equipment, building of temporary structures, digging, trenching, or compacting areas as needed to prepare for construction.
  • Responsible for safely and effectively operating and tending a variety of equipment and heavy machinery including but not limited to tractors with attachments, pavers, rollers, excavators, trucks and trailers, chippers, skid steers, mowing equipment with appropriate attachments, and others as appropriate.
  • Performs trail maintenance duties including working in a two to four person crew completing construction work tasks such as operation of appropriate tools and equipment (hand tools, chipper, brush hog, mower, paver), spreading materials, measuring progress, signage installations, and other duties as assigned.
  • Ensures compliance with Stark County Park District and Operations Department policies and standards relating to safety and safe operation and upkeep of construction equipment.

Ensures compliance with safety mandates and reporting requirements set forth by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Public Employment Risk Reduction Program (PERRP).

  • Effectively interacts with park patrons and manages difficult situations involving patron concerns appropriately.
  • Safely and effectively uses a variety of hand and power tools and equipment in performance of duties; responsible for complying with a variety of safety regulations and maintaining clean and orderly work areas and park owned vehicles.
  • Safely and effectively complete snow removal duties. Responsible for responding to severe weather conditions such as snow, flooding, or wind damage as needed and using appropriate snow removal equipment safely and effectively.
  • All other duties as assigned.

SPECIFIC EXPERIENCE / SKILLS / ABILITIES :

  • Familiarity with OSHA, PERRP, and SDS standards
  • Working knowledge of construction field, particularly building and maintenance of various trails, structures (carpentry work), and parking lots
  • Must be able to perform a variety of hands on construction work duties
  • Experienced and proficient in operating a variety of heavy construction equipment safely and effectively
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Must be able to read, interpret and implement blueprints and construction plans
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills

BASIC REQUIREMENTS : High school diploma / GED preferred. Three (3) or more years of experience in equipment operation, general construction, and maintenance required.

CERTIFICATIONS : Valid driver's license required. Class A CDL with appropriate endorsements required. Ohio Commercial Applicator license required

Due to the nature of this position, work conditions include moderate to frequent exposure to : extreme temperatures, outside and inside weather conditions, poisonous vegetation, insects, working around bodies of water and handling of chemicals, cleaning supplies and equipment as well as small and large electric or gas powered tools.

Must be able to perform physical requirements of the job including but not limited to : ability to write, read and comprehend instructions, use hands and fingers to handle / feel, regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, climb, stoop, kneel and crouch.

Ability to sit for long periods of time while operating heavy construction equipment. Ability to frequently lift / carry, push / pull up to 50 lbs.
